I am having a problem with what looks like interference waves, rolling bands and strange patterns in black/dark scenes using a Denon DVD-1600 player -on my Panasonic Plasma.


Anyone know anything about this? I just tried a second player and it does the same thing. I also tried a Panasonic RP-91, and a Toshiba player- both of which don't do this at all using the same input and component cable!


I tried using different inputs, moving the player around.. different power outlets..etc


I haven't been able to try an other display, but I believe something isn't jiving right with this model of dvd player and this display (and EDTV 7UY plasma)


I guess it's time to try another player. I need something similar or better than the 1600.. Any ideas what would work?


Upscaling isn't going to be appropriate for this display, and I would rather use the component input....

Sounds like a ground loop or really crappy component cables mixed with improper calibration. Unplug your cable or satellite coax cable(s) from the wall and see what happens. The 1600 is an excellent DVD player. What are you using for component cables? Some type of 75ohm coax based cable is what you should be using.

Yea, I'm using a pretty good cable. It's BNC to component. I tried a component to the VGA input too. (which my hd cable box uses no problem. I brought the display and dvd into another room, plugging both into an isolating power strip with nothing else around to rule out any interference but the same thing happened!

I had just figured it was a problem with my plasma, until I tried the two other players and neither caused this.


I know the player is a great one.. that's why I'm having such time figuring out what to replace it with!

Try another display, if possible, to see if it is a player problem. Too bad if it is.

Yea, I'm at my limit as far a troubleshooting capabilities. There's no other display here to try, thats why i just bought a second 1600 off ebay to see if it was my player. Since both players do the same thing, I am assuming it's an incompatibity with the 7uy plasma, or my display in particular. I might try getting a denon 2200, maybe that will work.

Something else I just noticed, this only happens when the player is in progressive mode. All the waves go away as soon as I hit the front button and put it into interlaced mode.

Maybe the plasma is not recognizing progressive signal properly - odd, but maybe a plasma setting could be tweaked. Make sure you have all the automatic this or that settings on the plasma turned off.

Well.. so far the Denon dvd-1600 is the only player that has this problem.. I tried two of them.


I just checked out a Denon 2200, and it along with the above mentioned Panasonic RP-91 and the Toshiba player all work fine.


I wonder why I'm spending so much time on this!?
