Denon DVD-1600 v. Pan DVD-RP56 Comparison

806 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jbaskette
I was at my local Tweeter store yesterday and had a chance to see both machines. Neither were hooked up. However, I can report that the 1600 is a much more attractive player, with a much less busy front than the RP56. It is also slightly larger than the RP56. The $250 price sign on the RP56 was much more attractive than the $500 price sign on the 1600. I am sure this info will help many of you.

Bob,

I like the better build quality that Denon provides and am willing to pay extra for it.

So ........ I wonder if Denon is going to bring out their equivalent of the RP82? A Denon PR82 rebrand might be a great addition to the equipment rack, since the 3800 is blown as a player for my consideration.
One differnce I neglected to mention is that the 1600 had "Denon" on the front, while the RP56 had "Panasonic" on the front.
Bob,

Did they both have "Made in China" on the back?
Sorry, didn't get a chance to look at the backs. I was just too awe struck by the beauty of the players to think of it.
I have the denon and it actually says Made in Japan on the back.

FREAK!
On the dvd1600 can you tell me if you can select video, film, or auto.
Robert,

You glossed over a highly important consideration for the price differential at the retail price point.

The DV-1600 is a DVD-Audio player, the RP-56 is not.

Regards,
And the DVD-A sounds GREAT. Manual sucks big time thought.

On the 1600, under transfer mode selection, you can choose 'Auto(normal):for viewing film material' or 'video: for video material' that is all.

FREAK!
John,

My post, ab initio, was intended as a joke and nothing more. It does not meet the Forum's standard meaning of equipment "comparison" and was not intended to do so.

Bob
How would you guys compare the 1600 to the RP91??
