I'm new to this forum, but I'm seriously considering the Denon DVD-3910.

I have some questions about it:

1) How does the audio in the stock 3910 compare to the stock audio in the 2900.

2) I've heard from several people that the 2900 refused to play several redbook CDs (from different people) after a few weeks of use. That is unacceptable. Has this problem been addressed with the 3910? Has anyone had this problem?

3) When will HD DVD come out, and how long before it becomes mainstream? (i.e. prices for mid-high quality HD DVD products will be comparable to price in mid-high quality DVD such as the 3910) I know this is basically an opinion.

4) How is the bass management in this player? Did Denon fix the LFE channel problem as I heard in the 2900 the LFE was -10dB

5) I have a Yamaha RX-V2400. Which would be a better dolby digital/dts processor, the one in the yamaha or the one in the 3910 (as I know the 3910 supposedly has better quality DACs)

Thanks for the advice.

My system is:

B&W 805s with sub

Odyssey Stratos Stereo Plus

Yamaha RX-V2400 pre/pro & surround amp

Toshiba SD-5700 DVD/CD player

Just to keep this near the top for your (answering for my 2900):

1) Read the original 3910 thread "3910 in da house". Robert reported that the 3910 was the clear winner (from my memory).

2) My 2900 has never refused to play a CD. I have tried over 200 CDs, SACDs, DVD-As, HDCDs and even a new XRCD. No problems here.

Good luck...

Well, I just picked up a Denon 3910 and it should be there in a few days. I have a 30 day trial period. Any issues I should look out for?

Also, how do I get the new firmware? Can I get it from Denon now, or do I need to have the actual product before I can get it?

First of all...simply enjoy your 3910 when it arrives. Don't go into this with a "what kind of problems should I expect" mindset. The 3910 is an awesome player, both for audio and video. As far as the firmware upgrade, simply e-mail them at:[email protected] They called me the next day and I got the disc in about 3 days. You don't need a s/n or anything, so I'd order it now. You can also call them: Tel. 800-497-8921 Option 2-1-2. Tell them you need the firmware upgrade for the 3910 and you'll be all set.

Enjoy your new player!

mitsbuy - nice amp choice, I have the HT3 w/cap upgrade, along with the 3910 and Denon 3805, which I use for the surrounds and sub output. When you add the 3910 you will have lots of listening options. It will be a major improvement and will help your amp bring out a lot of detail that you've been missing with your Toshiba. I had a Panasonic RP56 connected before replacing it with the Denon which was a major audio upgrade for me.

It's best to experiment and hear what sounds best on your system, in your room. Make sure you try the analog outs for CD listening, and compare pure direct, direct and stereo (this is Denon terminology, but I'm sure your Yamaha has similar options).

I called them before I even took my new 3910 out of the box, received the disk only a few days later, and performed the firmware upgrade the very first time I turned it on. By the way, this is one outstanding player! Over DVI (720p to a Sammy DLP), it's much sharper with more vibrant colors than my old player.

Thanks for the info! How's the Sammy DLP? Do you mean one of their LCD Projection HDTVs? I was thinking about getting either their 46in or 50in? I'm guessing they're greater than 9-bit so MB shouldn't be a problem with the Denon.

I have the Samsung 56" DLP (HLN 567w). I love it! And I have not seen any MB with the 3910 upscaled to 720p over DVI.

Has anyone noticed any green push with the 3910 like on other Denon players.

Ditto...just returned my 2910 because the pic seemed a bit green on some scenes (also manifist itself in DVE color check using the green filter).

I ordered a 3910 to replace it, hopefully it will perform better.
