I was just curious about how important this feature should make when purchasing a Denon product. I ask because I was currently looking at the Denon 887 which really tops my budget as of today. But comparing specs I noticed the 987 has a couple more options like the al24 processing and few other things. I may be willing to wait and get the 987 even though I'd like to get something soon.

Here's a compare link.

Im not really sure what they do, but mine pops on whenever Im sending it PCM from a BD player(got the 3806). I say get the 987. You also get Audessey with it and IMO works very well.

AL24 is Denons version of upsampling digital input.

It converts the digital signal to 24bit/192Khz PCM internally.

Depending on the model of receiver, it will do this only for 2 channel PCM or also for 5.1 DD and DTS.
