HI folks. I built an addition with a full basement (18x26'). I plan to use the room for:

-bar

-pool table

-theatre

The theme I'd like is a circa 1920's "Speakeasy" ie. an underground bootleg bar. Prohibition era what you might find in Chicago or NY etc.

I'll post pics on the room layout but I'd like the room to look really old, like a factory or warehouse. Some ideas I have are:

-reclaimed brick on the walls. Or patches of brick exposed where it looks like the plaster is falling off

-factory lighting

-old factory floor

-an industrial door into the room

What could I use for flooring? Maybe cobblestone? What would look good?

I couldn't find much online re this type of rec room theming

I think you'll need every bit of that space just for the theater. Fitting all that in the space have will be tough.

Hehehe.

I was thinking of an 8' wide screen like I had in my last basement (around 2007 with a Sanyo Z2)

I like to sit 1.5x screen widths away. The couch is about 14' away from the screen so an 8 or 9' wide will work

.....I think I see a problem.....

I meant 9', not 9". To clarify further - NINE FEET. =)

You'll only be able to get at most, 3 seats wide in there. 9' seems really narrow to me. Mine is ~15' 9" and doesn't feel any to wide.

You need a bathtub and a mannequin

I don't think he has room for it. Space feels tight without the mannequin.

Very cool ideas! That ceiling looks awesome, kind of coppery looking.

For the screen, which is recessed in the step footing, I'm thinking of cabaret lighting something like this. I saw it in a Vegas casino (Paris I think) with the white lights

Building on the industrial theme - how about a false wall of backlit factory windows? I also love the old-style wall-mounted power switch boxes.

Accessories could include a violin case, a hat stand with Al Capone-style fedoras hanging on it, old school wall-mounted telephone, brass bar kick rail, etc.
