Design Questions

So I have an office space, I’ll be turning into a media room in the spring. It’s 12’0” L x 11’7” W. I’ve been debating between 77” OLED or possibly being able to fit in a 100” screen. I would probably do 4 Fusion Jive seats in there as well as a 5.3.4 audio setup. With this kind of space, could I be able to fit say a NX7 or NX5 in there?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi,

According to the manual, you would have space to fit those projectors in that room, for a 100" image. If you want it to perform closer to the OLED in terms of contrast and black levels, it's very advisable that you cover the whole room in black velvet. Remember, however, that with the OLED there will be no lamp replacements, and no noise at all (although the JVC should be pretty silent in eco mode). It's not just for the image size, but I prefer the feel of a projector.

Maybe, the minimum throw distance for the NX7/NX5 is 125” (10’5”) for a 100” screen. If you subtract 19.5” (length of the projector) from 144” (12’) that comes to 124.5”. That’s not accounting for the space required to clear cables and ventilation from the back of the projector or how far off the wall the screen would be. Too close for comfort imo.

Unless you plan on moving in the near future and will have the possibility upgrading your room I’d say it’s not worth it. A local dimming 85” tv would be so much less expensive, easier to install and arguably have better picture quality. Also you’d likely have the projector mounted right above your head creating heat and noise. All these disadvantages for an extra 15” doesn’t make sense imo. You could go with a short throw or ultra short throw projector. Granted the picture quality would not be as good as a JVC projector or a high quality television, but you would be able to have a more immersive “theater like” screen size of over a 120”. This is just my subjective opinion.
