Designing my theater space

Hello!

I am finally getting around to finishing off my basement where I was able to create a 14 foot wide X 26 foot long theater room. I've got roughly 15 feet in the front before stepping up to a 1 foot high stage for the remaining 11 feet.

I have chosen to go for a 7.2.4 setup, but have ran in to mixed opinions on how to handle the rear speakers (Channels 6 & 7). Because my room is only 14 feet wide, most calculators (and integrators) are telling me to go with ceiling speakers for my rear speakers, however this would mean that I have 6 ceiling speakers. Would these clash with my Atmos speakers?

I would prefer to put them in the back wall myself, but I am being told my 14 foot wide room is slightly too narrow for that to be optimal. I was hoping to use some in wall speakers in line with the LR and ceiling height channels on the rear wall, and am still leaning that way calculators be damned, but wanted to find out if I am really shooting myself in the leg by going that way.

The room isn't perfect, but I did the best I could when I drew up the original plans for the house 5 yrs ago. I am not an audiophile but I also don't want to sabotage myself either.

Thanks!

It’s all about the angles at your main listening position. Have you looked at this yet: Dolby Atmos Setup Guides ?
