Are the new channels on Comcast going to broadcast HD 24 hours a day??

Or are they only broadcasting an HD signal during prime time, if so why pay for the service for cable when the networks broadcast prime time OTA for free???

Maybe you live in an apartment and can't get a good signal or put out a big honking antenna. Maybe you don't want the antenna on your house, or don't have a decoder box already and don't want to put out the $400 or so dollars and would rather pay $10/month for the DCT5100. Perhaps you have digital cable and have been using your HDTV for DVDs and this is a simple upgrade path without adding an antenna/dish combo. Take your pick. This product may not be for everyone, but I'm sure some people will get use from it.

Joe E,

No they are broadcasting HD just when the networks pass a HD signal.

I agree with dstarlin that it pretty much is convenience that would cause one to go to Comcast for HD. A lot of people right now pay for digital cable right now and just need a switch out of their cable box. I have a STB for OTA as well but if I could have saved the $550 on it a year ago that would have been nice.

Also, channel selection will be a big draw in the future. I agree that right now it may not appear to be much but if Comcast can give me HDNET, ESPN-HD, Discover HD, and HD locals in the future then for that convenience I'm willing to pay.
