Just a heads up for those in SE Michigan- we've got another DTV station up!

WADL channel 38 analog UHF is on 39 UHF DTV with two program streams.

I haven't been a big WADL watcher in the past, but "Dear John" re-runs with that "Kirk" guy and Judd Hirsch in digital is kinda cool ;).

Pretty sad when an independant little station beats the WB...

Good catch, Rgb.

FYI, from The Michigan Guide:

WADL-TV Channel 38, Mt. Clemens

(Detroit)

Slogan: Fox Kids 38

Power/Height/Offset: 5,000,000 watts / 630 feet / +

directional antenna

FCC Information:

Call Sign History: WADL (assigned 9/25/85)

Call Sign Origin: Adell Broadcasting

Digital Channel: 39

Network Affiliation History:

Fox Kids (9/1998)

The Word Network (added 12/2000)

On Air Date: 1986

Owner: Adell Broadcasting

Telephone: (586) 790-3838

History:

2000: Adell forms The Word Network

3/28/2000: Construction permit granted for digital facilities

6/1999: Applies for digital facilities on channel 39

9/1998: Fox Kids programming moves from channel 50- 5 year agreement

More on programming history: Station has relied heavily on home shopping feeds; first airing the Home Shopping Network, then Home Shopping Spree, and as of about 1995 Shop at Home. Since its inception, WADL has been the Detroit area's 'leftover' station- airing programming no other station wants/has room for. At one point, WADL was rebroadcasting WJBK-TV Channel 2 Detroit newscasts'- most on a tape delayed basis.

What hours are they broadcasting? I can't get anything in Livonia with a Winegard roof antenna and DST3000. I figure their tx is about 27 miles from me.

Maybe I bought the wrong antenna!

They don't appear to be broadcasting this Saturday evening. I've been out of town for 3 weeks, so today was the first chance for me to try to find it. No luck yet -- no luck with any of the Toledo stations, either. My antenna is pointed the wrong way for Toledo, though.

Rgb, you mentioned two streams. What are they -- widescreen and 4:3? Different programs altogether?

Both 4:3 480i, different programs. They have been kind of spotty, sometimes they are there, other times they are not.

I picked it up the other night on my upstairs setup (DTC-100), but the signal was not stable. I must be right on the fringe for its current power level. And I learned that 39-1 is a simulcast of their analog signal, while 39-2 appears to be "The Word", a religious network.

Reception in Livonia is not very strong. It should be noted that their transmitter is about 20 miles east of the WXYZ transmitter. They are south of Metro Parkway, almost to I94.

I live fairly close to WADL transmitter being in the North West corner of Sterling Heights. I belive their about 9 or 10 miles SE from me. There's days where I cannot even pull their signal well (comparitively) after repointing my antenna to them Signal strengths will come in around 70 - 75 on my Dish 6000 where all other Detroit channels come in 95+ from where I am about 20 miles from the transmitters.

Well, I guess that I won't even try to lock their signal out here near Hell.

FWIW, I can get channel 39 on sort of an off and on basis here in Southfield.

But I notice TitanTV for my area also now lists channels 17 and 49, which I've never gotten. I know what 17 is but does anyone know about 49, another NBC channel?

The only channel 49 in the Detroit area is TCT , which is a good thing because there is already a 48 and 50.

Barry,

17 is WTOL the CBS affiliate from Toledo and 49 is WNWO the NBC affiliate from Toledo.

I can lock to 39 but have not seen anything. On Sunday I saw evangelist sermons on both 39-1 and 39-2. The picture quality was BAAAAAD...

I wonder if WADL increased their power recently, for I'm finding their signal to be more stable. There is still the occasional dropout, and I don't think I'm able to receive it with my downstairs setup.

You're right about the main channel picture quality. It's not much better than the analog signal.

I'm in Toledo, OH. I haven't purchased a STB yet. The WTOL engineer sent me an email reply saying they are waiting for a piece of equipment.

I'm hoping WTOL (CBS) and the NBC affiliate will both be online this fall.

I have thought of trying to pull in the Detroit DTV stations with the biggest antenna I can get. I don't know if 50-60 miles is too far away to get a signal.

I'd be in heaven if I could pull in my local OTA, the Detroit OTA, and adding the DirecTV HBO/Showtime channels.
