I do not have the model number on me, but it was a Samsung 32 inch LCD TV purchased in December 06 if that helps.

Basically a few weeks ago there were sometimes a few pixels that turned while on the screen, but just had to turn off the TV and it would go away when turned back on.

Recently though there are bands of pixels (almost like snow but different colors) going diagonally across the screen. When you turn the TV on it is fine for less than a second but then these bands show up across the picture.

What is wrong with the TV?

Thanks

does this happen on all inputs or only a select few inputs?

If it only occurs on a select few inputs, it could be the cable, the input jack, or even the device connected to it...

I've tried two inputs (Cable Box and DVD player) and it occured on both

1. If you are good with electronics….

…. since it happens on all inputs and it appears like the pixels are turned on hard, I would check the pixel driver PCB. Which one is a pixel driver PCB? One that has ribbon cable connection with the LCD panel.

a) It could be as easy as cleaning the contacts at both ends: pixel driver PCB end, as well as LCD panel end. Let me know if you are ready to do this and I will explain further how to release the clips and how to clean the ribbon cable contacts…

b) If that does nothing, get a can of freeze spray (you mentioned that problem disappears temporarily when you switch the TV off.. - hence it may be heat-related problem) and while the problem is present on the screen, use the spray to cool the large heat sink that dissipates the heat from the pixel driver processor. It should be easily distinguishable as the largest heat sink inside the TV. If this helps, order a brand new pixel driver PCB and replace.

I think it would probably be b) because it seems the problem is heat-related…

…. just call the authorised service, let them know the model number and MAKE SURE the tech brings ALL the spares – all the PCB’s… he’ll (she’ll?) start replacing one PCB at the time… until the right one gets replaced… they may ask you to take the TV to service for repair.

Good luck!

Let me know the outcome!!!!!

It looks similar to the problem I had

Then I got a cracking bezel

I replaced my first one from horrible backlight uniformity. I'm trying my third time - and I'm not really too happy of course T_T I think I'll just return it and go with some other brand

PS: The first picture isn't mine, but it's exactly what I got... more so so with your pictures you posted.

How much would the repair cost with authorized dealer?

What is full model number? Affects Tv menus/osd? Affects service menu test patterns?

Labor is $250-$300. You could check the power supply for bulging caps and re-seat the lvds cable. Next would be Main board, then tcon (but that is probably part of panel).

did you read my post at #7?

Yes, I want to do it, just a little hesitant I'll screw it up. Don't know how big components are and such, I have no problem working with my pc, but Laptop components were too small for me.

Also, it doesn't stop when I turn it off, when you turn TV on for less than a second it has normal picture before I get the 'snow' I guess. A month or so ago it stopped when turning TV off but that doesn't solve the problem anymore
