Dial Up & 360 query

426 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  kylebisme
I have read you can connect to Live over dial up using internet connection sharing on an Xp machine via a crossover cable. I know it is useless for gaming but what about Live Arcade? Patches?

On some other forums they say you can get dashboard updates and gamefixes.

Anyone here know about this?

Well, it is only the way the majority of the world connects to internet.

Not everyone has access to broadband. Some places got hit by a hurricane last year and new services are no longer added.
Well, do you really want to pay for a Live subscription if all you're doing is getting updates and such? I'm not sure if it's possible or not, but I have heard that it is.
I think it would be worth it if the Arcade games are downloadable and dont "require" a connection to play. I am not into multiplayer so much but the geometry wars seems cool and zuma.
Can't you get patches and some updates with a Silver subscription?

I would think that you'd be able to get things like that over dialup, as long as you can convert it to ethernet.
Yep, you can, just set your modem up to share the ethernet connection with the network card in your PC.
What about Arcade? Are you able to download the games and play while not connected?

I am trying to decide whether or not the Live aspect is a deal breaker on the 360. I know getting my horse pimped out in Oblivion is cool and all but not something I would have to have to enjoy the 360. It does seem there are several games out now and coming soon that will not slouch in single player fun.
Yeah, Live Aracde games can be played off line.

Thanks a lot guys. This helps seal the deal.
Note that Project Gotham Racing 3 includes two versions of Geometry Wars.

WRONG! Full versions of Live Arcade games can't be played unless you are connected to Live. You are stuck with the demo version of whatever game you want to play. Not sure why Microsoft does this, it's kind of a crappy deal.

I'm not trying to be smart but is this really true? I thought dial up was just about dead.

Worldwide it's a true statement.....Not true if you're talking domestic. I think Nielson had the % in the US at 68% in Feb of this year.

Where do you get your missiformation from and why are you so insitent to spread it? I just now unpluged the eithernet from my 360, turned it on and fired up full version of Geometry wars right now.
