Did ATI sneak an overscan fix into the Cat 4.9 Drivers?
Ok I had been using the Cat 4.10 drivers with the crappy Control Center thing but I decided that those didn't have the features I wanted(wmv hardware decoding, correct resolutions, force 720p). So I decided to try the Cat 4.10 drivers without the CCC. I was pleased to see that not only did they have the force 720p, force 1080i, wmv hardware decoding(which works for me) but they also added a new row of checkboxes that corrects the overscan issue with an LCD or DLP TV. This check box is called "optimize format" and it was on the control panel/Displays/Component output/ tab. Note: I am using the DVI to Component output connector not the straight DVI. I don't know if it exists for a straight DVI connection. Anyway, when I select that checkbox it corrects the overscan issue for 720p and 1080i. For 720p it seems to just decrease the resolution to something like 1184x666 but for 1080i it keeps the 1766x1000 and it eliminates overscan. I really think that these new drivers have given me a nearly perfect picture with zero overscan and I have no issues with black crush with the component connection. The CCC ATI catalyst drivers just plain suck. Don't use them. Has anyone else messed with these settings?
