Did I just take some life expectancy from my projector?

I was playing with my BenQ 6100 projector today in an attempt to determine the right ceiling mount height to eliminate key stoning when all of a sudden the unit completely turned off. In my panic I turned it right back on and it made a sharp quick repeating clicking sound (similar to the sound of auto ignite spark on gas cooking ranges or BBQs) and the units lamp light came on solid red with no light output. I did a hard shut down using the rocker switch and then turned it back on and the unit worked just fine. I discovered shortly after that my power plug though plugged into the projector was not fully inserted and with just the right bump, would disconnect…this looks like what caused the original power failure.

My concern is that awful clicking sound which I can only assume came from the bulb? If so, did I just take some life expectancy out of it?

Perhaps...Cycling the powersupply is not the best idea, but we all have done something stooopid with our new toys. Since it it working fine now, I recommend a deep breath, and set it up at a little slower pace. Then put in a good movie, enjoy it, drink a cool beverage...that's what this doctor recommends.

Gary.
More likely it was simply too hot to start, since it had just been powered off. The lamp needs to cool to reduce internal pressure before it can restart.

Should it happen again... you are not doing yourself or your bulb any favor by trying to reapply power again quickly. Let the thing cool down naturally.... your chances of damage are less than trying to "light" a hot bulb and go thru a "normal" fan cooling process.

I did the exact same thing when I first got my X1 and was setting it up, the power blipped, the lamp of course didn't restart, and before my brain cells could take over I tried to light it off again. Of course it did not.

I am at almost 500 hours now, and no burst bulb, but If it fails I soon I will just chalk it up as a $300 lesson in life.
