Hi all,


I'm in the market for a new progressive scan DVD player for an HD RPTV. I've noticed quite a buzz for the Panasonic RP-82, but as best I could determine, it was because of price and the Faroudja de-interlacer.


What would be the reason for people to continue seeking a used RP-82 instead of a brand new Denon DVD-1200 (or DVD-910)?


What am I missing? Thanks.

All the top-rated Panasonic RP82, XP30, XP50 and the Denon DVD-1600 (discontinued about a year ago) had an excellent total design including a superior MPEG decoder, so they had perfect flat frequency response for a sharp picture and no chroma bug, plus they were built in Japan. The newer models like the Denon DVD-910 and DVD-1200 are cheaply built in China now and have a softer image with some chroma bugs - they still look pretty good, but the older models are still better. I tried one of the newer models but took it back to the store and got a used Pansonic XP30 on EBAY for $200 and its great.

The main reason the older Panasonics were so good was mainly the combination of the great MPEG decoder and de-interlacing. The frequency response out of box was also quite good.
