DVI connectors found in video cards are capable of sending analog RGB, hence an adapter to connect the pins. DVI also transfers digital signals. This mainly for flexibility of various monitor configurations.

difference between VGA and DVI? What about DVI to VGA adapters
if there is a difference between VGA and DVI, then how come you can convert dvi to vga with a simple straight through adapter?
