okay so ive been building my home theatre setup slowly over the course of 1.5 years. i started with an onkyo hitb from 2006.

so far ive upgraded to

 

onkyo 818 reciever

bic dv64 tower speakers

polk audio cs20 center speaker

dual pb2000s

rears and surrounds are onkyo speakers that came in the box.

 

so im looking to upgrade those. its 4 in total.

 

can someone suggest some that could play well with my current setup?

i assume any name brand speaker would be an upgrade to what i have now.

 

also i hear about timbre matching but how much difference would it actually make?

 

anyway budget i like to keep under 500 dollars. thanks for reading

It is hard to tell how big a difference changing the center will make, but that is the logical next step! Good luck!

I suggest that you get four of the Cambridge Audio S20 speakers, which cost $129 per pair.


I also suggest that you get the Cambridge Audio S50 center speaker, which is $199.


That should be a big improvement.

That should be a big improvement.

You really should stretch your budget (sell your present speakers) and get 2 CA S30's for the front. They're just 70 bucks more. These are shipping prices included.

For the first time I now have a timbre matched 7 speaker surround set up and I'm really enjoying it. It was a huge difference. I'm not sure how to describe it but the sound sources seem much more seamless now and more realistic. If I had the room all 7 speakers would be the same towers.
