Hi.

Right now I have WinDVD 2.4 on my system. Could someone spot any differences with the newest updates?

When I once upgraded to 2.6.4, sometimes I got an error....

Is there any improvement with the newest editions?

I agree, however the big fix for me on 3.0 is that the overlay controls are now fixed. 2.6.4 had a problem if you used HWMC where the ovelay controls would not maintain their settings.

Thanx for the replies guys. From today I have the retail version of WinDVD3.0 and I think I'll stick with it.

Full multichannel - headphones support and DTS. Great Video, with and without MC. Great sound. The popling sound (when navigating on the right click menu) is almost gone. Even DvdGenie 4 works great with it. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I also see that there is a collaboration of Intervideo with a company called "Kings Multimedia" or something like this - because they have their stamp on the starting screen of WinDVD 3.0

We can also see no real changes on the interface - at list at this 3055 build version. The WinDVD manager seems to be changed - on the tray icon - a little bit. There's also a DTS stamp that indicates the DTS official licence support but...

DTS doesn't seem to work with my Gladiator DVD. So I guess My DVD disc might be a crappy copy (this sucks).

With this version of WinDVD I might as well betrade my favourite PowerDVD 3.0 ! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/eek.gif after a long time LOVE....

I've done some very sporadic testing, mainly with Gladiator.

I compare to Windvd 2.6 and Powedvd3.0.

(I only tested PowerDVD for sound... only thing that is good with that player is the sound quality).

CCLAY .. I would say 10 times is an understatement ... looks terrible on my machine ... I guess it just doesn't like my machine http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

In the beginning when the Dreamworks logo is panning from left to right, it is smoother than 2.6 (with or without HWMC).

I think sound is more dynamic (removed old winDVD so it is hard to say). Still not up to PowerDVD though.

The image looks a bit more grainy .. probably just a calibration issue.

Testing on

P2 [email protected]

Geforce 2MX

ASUS DVD

MAudio delta 1010 (2 channels only)

Electrohome Marquee projector.

Acurus 3 preamp

Acurus Amps

Canton Speakers

Judging by the whopping 5 minutes at a time that I could watch last night, I'd say the v3 may be just a tad better that PDVD3, which I thought was just a tad better than my WDVD 2.3.

It's funny to hear comments like "are you kidding, WDVD3 is 10 times better than blah, blah, blah."

I've noticed small little improvements here and there with different versions of both PDVD and WinDVD, but if anyone can say the differences are night and day, then I must tbe doing something wrong.

I did think the DD was very good, maybe better than PDVD3.

Enabling or disabling HWMC in the registry did absolutely nothing on my system. The image looked good both ways.

I spotted much better scaling in a scene in Se7en Platinum edition. When they enter John Does appartment and the camera pans over the tool box the image seems a lot clearer with WinDVD 3.0 as opposed to 2.6.4 (using a Radeon based HTPC at a Cinema One).

Cheers

Christoph

BTW: Thanks again Soren for helping me out http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif
