Has anyone ever done a benchmark test or other comparison of the various MPEG2 hardware offload options? Is there any difference in quality or performance for the various options out there? They processes involved are well defined, can the various implementations have differing outputs?

As far as I know, the DxVA offload addresses iDCT and motion compensation. Are there any other offload possibilities for MPEG2?

The primary options that I know of are:

- Radeons - The pioneer in this field, they have supported MPEG2 accel for a long time.. Is there any difference in the various generations, from the Rage 128 up through the Radeon 9x00?

- Nvidia - GeForce4 MX, GeForce FX. How do these compare to Radeons?

- VIA chipset integrated video, such as on the newer EPIA boards. Is there any advantage in doing this work in the North Bridge, rather than across the AGP bus on the video card (i.e. is the data being operated on in main memory, or in video memory)?

- S3 Delta Chrome - I think these are becoming available now. They are supposed to support DxVA, and have component output.
