Will there be any difference in sound by powering the mains with more watts than the center and rears? For example, a 250 watt 2 channel powering the mains and a 100 watt 3 channel powering the center and rears.

And how about if the amps were from different manufacturers?

The reason for this as opposed to going for a 5 channel is that I may have to slowly build up the system due to financial constraints.

The speakers are Energy Veritas 2.3i for the mains, 2.0i for the center and some older and smaller PSB's in the rear. I don't have a prepro yet but was looking for an older Anthem(avr20 or 30).

Also, would the 2.3i's be underpowered by anything under 200 watts?

Sorry for all the questions!

All is fine..

Build the system as the $ afford you to..

The L/R fronts are most important especially if driving full-range (Large), so having more power reserve is a +. And the AVR has individual channel trim levels so that you can balance each channel for the proper sound stage..

Just my $0.01..
