Hello! I really need help about this choise:

I have 7.1. home cinema setup - Dynaudio BM6A professional active (100+100 W in each monitor) speakers on each channel and Dynaudio sub.

But now it's a problem: I'll planned to buy new A/V processor for $1,200-1,600, so what we'v have in this price range?

- Rotel 1066 (no DTS 96/24, DD EX on soft upgrade option);

- Aragorn 950 (difficult to buy in my country - Russia)

- Adcom 760 (no DTS Discrete)

Very small model range... Okey.

My point is - Rotel 1066. This model is one year old, have no DTS 96/24 - but users review is happy.

But now I'll heard about brand new A/V amp / recievers (wide model range, many new models in this price), wich have best perfomance (?) - Yamaha AZ2 ($1,400), etc...

This model have latest 2003 years DSP chip, 192 kHz D/A, DTS 96/24, etc.

So, the question is:

***

If amp section is no need for me, for optimum houm cinema perfomance only, what can I do? For best perfomance houm cinema what product in this price range is the best? Processor is the best, or not - separetes perfomanse is winner or newest technology is winner? Anybody heard test "a/v amps - processors" in processor-only configuration - and who is the winner - new Yamaha chip, old Rotel stand alone product or anyone else?

***

Thank You very mutch indeed!

Hope for anyone helps.

P.S. On forum search I see posting "B&K ref 30/amp combo vs new Yamaha a/v amp" - Yamaha is a winner! And another posting is - "Denon 5700 vs Rotel 1066/amp combo" - Rotel is a winner. I really confused...

Hello,

You may want to consider a used Lexicon MC-1 which can be had for $1599-$2000. Right now or the JBL SDP-3 which is a rebadged MC-1 and can be found used at the low end of 1700$. For a 7.1 set-up nothing competes with Lexicon and there Logic 7 decoding.

Last week I picked up a JBL SDP-3 for $1599 and simply am in awe of the sound I hear for the price I paid. New retail on this unit is around $5000.

Only downsides is it is being phased out by Lex's new MC-8 and does not have 5.1 analog inputs. But now is the time to pick one up they are going for a very cheap prive and version 4 competes feature wise with any noew Pre/Pro on the market.
