I currently have the Klipsch Reference 3 system and am very happy with it. However I recently came into possession (for free) the Definitive Technology bp-2000 set and am wondering what everyone can tell me about the Def Tech set and also if I can get some input on which people think would sound better even though i should use my own ears i just want some opinions before i go through the trouble of unhooking and hooking up

Thanks,

Shawn

You have them right there! Rather than spend a few minutes connecting them and hearing for yourself what you like best, you would rather take the word of other people? This makes absolutely NO sense. Hook them both up and see which you prefer.

my other problem is ill have to buy 2 subwoffer cables to hook up the built in subs and also a splitter to hook it up to the receiver, since i currently have no sub. Also i did try to hook them up but just the fronts and they didn't blend well another reason is it is a real pain to get my surrounds down. I just wanted to know if it would be worth my effort or not.

Hook them up via speaker level outputs, set mains to large and sub to no. Give them a listen in two channel mode. Make sure you keep them well off the back wall and adjust the rear firing speakers to taste.

Shawn, they're wrong. Keep the 3's and have me drive up and take those BP-2000's off your hands. Seriously, I have them, and love them. See system page, below.

I agree with Tom. Leave all the jumpers in place and set your bass management to "no sub". This'll give you enough to go on. If you need some additional advice, call me.

If you decide to sell the DefTech's, please call me. I'm in Va., which means no shipping. Number on my site, below. Anytime, up to 10 PM.

Everyone thank you for the helpful and not so helpful comments. Last night I did a test and it made me had an even better appreciation for the Klipsch speakers. Without the powered subwoofers the definitives bass levels could not even compete, as well as the highs but thats what klipsch is known for. However the mids were very impressive I herd a little more detail in dialog and some atmospheric sounds. While the definitives are impressive looking I think i would miss the details of my Klipsch. What did the definitives sell for when they were new? Just trying to do a compare from what i payed for my Klipsch. What would be a fair value if I sold them? Larry I'm not sure if I want to sell them or make a second home theater.

Thanks

hmmm, I wonder why? Maybe because the DefTechs have powered subs and the crossover will not allow bass information to be sent to the mid drivers. Plug'em in and pull'em away from the back wall (3' min) and have another listen. Try turning the rear firing speakers way down.

I sell both the Klipsch Reference and DefTechs in my shop and listen to both daily. Some customers seem to prefer the horn loaded highs the Klipsch puts out. I personally don't like the way they seem to shout and the ringing tweeters wear me out rather quickly. Others customers love them and enthusiastically recommend them to all their friends. They are good for loud rock and roll music but they are SCREAMERS.
