I have an older VP42 HDTV that I bought refurbished in about 2006 from TigerDirect. I had some problems with it earlier on and could never find out for sure exactly what it was. There was no model/manual that had the same connector layout or menu system as mine. I was told that VISIO was good for that.

The problem I have with it now is that when I scan for channels it will scan the analog channels that are available (1) but it will not scan the digital channels. They were there before.

When I go to the menu screen where you turn on/off the closed caption, I noticed that the selection for the digital channels is greyed out. It almost looks like the TV does not have DTV capabilities.

I have not done any tests or disassembled it yet. Just in case it is something stupid that I should of figured out myself.

BTW, this set has only one RF connector so the antenna is not connected to the wrong port.

ANY IDEAS?????????????????

If you haven't already, you might try unplugging it from wall power for 10 minutes or so. That kind of a "soft reset" often can clear up strange problems.

Using the remote to "turn it off" just puts it into standby, with many circuits still powered on and confused.

Has the firmware ever been updated, did bad firmware get applied to it? If the menu system was correct but now the options in it are different that would be a firmware issue, but how or why and how to get correct firmware installed is the question. Just my 2 cents worth.
