Back a few years ago I decided to build a hanging digital poster frame for my family livingroom theater. That thread is located here.

So after moving into a new house and a lengthy full remodel inside came time to build my dedicated theater (still being built).

So on to the in wall digital poster frame. At first the wife and I decided to scrap the idea of the poster all together. First thought was not enough room and needed access to the back of the display. Well after having the theater room demoed for wires and insulation I started to brainstorm. So below is what route I have chosen to take.

Ok I figured out how I’m doing it. It’s being done so the front frame is removable to expose the tv, hookups, and bracket. The front frame is sleeved inside and outer wall frame. The wall frame will be mounted in the wall between the studs. Then the tv will be mounted to the vertical brackets. The tv with vertical brackets will slipped into the wall frame and screwed in. The the outer finish frame will slip into the wall frame. Hope everyone understands with pictures.

The finish frame will have thin foam to cushion the frame on the wall and on the face of the tv. The finished frame will be secured by friction and by cabinet door clip latches. Built into the finished frame is notches routed out on lower and upper parts of the frame. This one helps as handles to pull the finished frame off to access the tv and allows for the airflow with fan.

I routed out half thickness of the wall frame in a channel to make a airflow duct. The lines up with the finished frame to serve as intake at bottom and exhaust at the top. I did these on opposite corners to get cross flow. The fan plugs into the USB port and powers on and off with tv. I need to order a usb splitter to use the fan and thumb drive at the same time. Also getting a IR usb repeater so I can control the tv while in wall.

Inside the wall frame I’m going to install a decor outlet to plug in the tv and usb for IR repeater. This outlet will be a power bridge back to my AV rack so it can be protected by my surge protector.

Last nights work. Need to make some small adjustments as now the tv is too snug when fitted into the wall. I will sand the finished frame some to slide in. But temporarily put it in the wall and looks awesome. Ordered the usb splitter and usb ir repeater. Hope to get is all finished this weekend so I can move on to the rest of the build.

I’m all complete with the install and painting. Came out way better than expected. IR repeater works great along with the USB splitter. Next is getting a mini PC so I can run the movie poster program from forum member meyer64. Looks great! Do you have any heat issues with heat buildup? I see that you do have an exhaust fan.

No heat whatsoever. I have the exhaust at top and intake at bottom, great airflow.

That looks great. I wanted to do something similar but got vetoed by the wife. Apparently I cut too many holes in the walls.

Now that my rack is coming along I’m going to install the mini pc to run the movie poster program from meyer64. It will really finish off my entrance to the theater.

Great execution flush mounting it in the wall with the removable trim! Really came out great and I like the way you have the rack on display and the movie poster TV on either side of your theater door.

Will be doing one of these as phase 2 (maybe phase 3?) of my build after the room itself is up and running. Wife gave me the OK a while back, so....

Trying to wrap my head around how to mount the TV securely and still have access from the front should I ever need to pull it out for something. Any reason why the USB charger off the outlet vs the TV USB port? Finally where in the frame is the IR repeater located? Thanks as always the help is appreciated. Pretty much stealing this and several other things from your build lol

The tv is mounted to the vertical wood brackets I made. Below is a picture of the old brackets from the last house when it hung on the wall. I made new ones without the french cleat and a smaller cross suppport on top and bottom. Could have used the old one but wanted to make new.

To keep the tv perfectly centered so I can remove and install for service or upgrades I added small guide blocks for centering. You can see in this picture the 2 little blocks of wood at the bottom just behind the blue tape. There are 2 at the top also.

So the tv wood brackets are put into the small block guides and pushed back into place. Then I used 4 wood screws (2 top 2 bottom) to mount the wood bracket to the poster box backing. This way you can connect wiring while allowing the tv to be tilted before screwing in the mounting screws. Then the front panel frame slips over the screen and is friction fitted.

The USB charger is there for the IR extender seeing the USB port on the tv is off when the tv is off. So it would not work without constant power. My cooling fan is plugged into the USB on the tv so that comes on when the tv is turned on.

You could narrow the back bracket of an inexpensive slim mount hdtv bracket, and hang the hdtv that way. Any frame could use some sort of alignment posts, whether that is created by wood dowels,
or a home built French cleat. Maybe a couple of dabs of Velcro to keep the frame pulled in close to the wall at the bottom.

I am doing a flat surround, and the plans are to is use simply use some acorn nuts to finish off the four mounting posts. I want the frame flush with the wall, so I will recess a shallow wood box, and simply 'float" the frame
even with the drywall. I will keep a reveal around the frame so ventilation is accommodated. I doubt some acorn nuts would look attractive with a wood frame, but I am looking for a more industrial look.

I also have seen a rotated hdtv and it's covering frame hosted by two little L brackets up top, where the eye doesn't see them. Maybe that could be as simple as two flat brackets, with the bracket routed into the frame, so
everything sits flush.

I expect there are many ways to engineer a frame mount, up to some mounting posts and springs.

I've been messing around with this software and I cannot for the life of me figure out how you got it to display like you did; the whole "Welcome...." at the top and the "This theater features" at the bottom. The thread supporting it is over 100 pages long at this point and most of it is about KODI issues. Care to help a guy out?

I’m sorry to tell you, but what you see was just custom movie posters on a usb stick. I made them before I started to use the movie poster program.
