Hi all-

Working on a little mad scientist project, and I'm looking for a projector whose focus can be controlled programmatically via network API, USB or RS-232. Can anyone point me in a good direction? Would prefer 1400x1050 minimum res and 2000+ lumens, but I just need a PJ to prototype with for now.

Thanks in advance,

Darren

The Panasonic PT-AE4000U can probably do that. It has a motorized focus.

They have a spec file at:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro...00/ae4k_sf.pdf

This spec file has details on the serial port, command structure, etc. Although it doesn't have an explicit "focus" command, it does have commands that replicate the various keys on the remote, and I bet using the right sequence, you can adjust focus over RS-232.

Hope this helps!

Adding some more info...

I haven't even turned my Panasonic on yet, but it appears the "LENS" button on the remote takes you to a zoom/focus menu where I bet the cursor control keys adjust those functions.

You could probably send the "lens" button command over the RS-232, and then send cursor control commands to adjust these over the serial connection.

I bet you can adjust both zoom and focus over RS-232.

Good luck, and let us know if you try it, how it goes.

The HC5500 and HC6500 from Mitsubishi behave in the same way. You can send an RS-232 command to open the focus menu and then feed it keypresses, but there's no way to directly read the current focus setting and change it to an arbitrary value. Details here .
