Digital to Analog Processor?

1059 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Carl H
I have a set of Logitech of X540 speakers. The speaker's six channel inputs are in the form of three analog 3.5mm TRS plugs.

This is a problem since the components I wish to hook up to them (Xbox, DVD Player, etc) typically have digital output.

I'm not an audio expert or anything, but it looks like Creative Labs DDTS-100 would have been the perfect device, but it unfortunatley went out of production years ago and it's difficult to find one.

Does anyone know of an alternative, preferably inexpensive, decoder/processor that could take digital 5.1 input and output analog 5.1?

I can find many AVRs that'd do the trick, but I want to avoid spending that much money (especially since I wouldn't be fully utilizing the AVR.)

If you do not mind buying gear sold in the early 2000s, do a search for the
Technics SH-AC500D , a standalone DD/DTS processor that sold for around $200 back then when many receivers still did not include their own decoders. I am sure there are many sitting in HT hobbyists closets looking for a home.

I think Marantz also sold a similar decoder.
You could also find a really old pre-amp(even pre component video) that has tos-link...

To give you an idea of what to look for, just don't expect DTS decoding if you go too old...

http://cgi.ebay.com/B-K-Reference-30...#ht_500wt_1413 (has DTS)
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rotel-Pre-Amp-Pr...#ht_500wt_1413 (has DTS and might stay under $150)

Well, the afore-mentioned Technics SH-AC500D will do the job and provide remote control as well. I have one sitting in my closet, if you are interested. Otherwise, any cheap old DD AVR will do.
^^^ +/-1

Early liquid lunch there Kal?

His speakers are self-powered...

He needs pre-outs or a SSP.

My "liquid lunch" comment was for Kal's run on...

"any cheap old DD AVR will do"

Add..."any old...will do, with pre-outs"

Thanks for the help!

I may have to have a look at that Technics SH-AC500D.
