I've heard your requests for this and put it off as long as possible.


As much as I really wanted to play with the fun stuff we've been working on lately, I've put the "Complete Back Up Wizard" on top of the development list. It was time. You can take all of your projector settings and store them in a file for safe keeping.


Protect that calibration investment. Keep your "stock" settings around if you ever decide to sell. Just a couple of clicks (and a few minutes waiting for the download) and you're done.

Is this assuming that our projectors are in bone stock mode?


My G11 is a virgin as far as other hands being on it, but it's a far cry from pure, as I've spent a good many nights with her......I mean

IT, to get it to where it is now(quite good).


If the wizard saves whatever settings it sees, I suppose we'd be able to save, or restore old settings and save, the necessary file, correct?


As with the Black Level Wizard, I've managed to have about 5 saved files that I jump between for different venues that I watch. Will this be the same?

Hi Chris,


The Wizard will back up whatever is currently in the projector. You can back up as much or as little as you wish by dragging and dropping the settings onto the file.


Restoring is equally easy. Drag and drop whatever settings you wish to restore (up to the entire projector) and they are placed back into the projector.


You could certainly use the technique to have different settings for different uses, if you wish ('party mode' and 'critical viewing' mode for instance).

you forget about the additional user settings/memories for the g20 owners. I thought that someone was working on the g20 special settings in dilard? what happen? what is the plan. thanks

You are absolutely right. I want to support the elite electronics as well (with the fancy channels, user sources, etc.).


I have the G20 docs., and could try to incorporate support for it based on the docs and careful coding, but testing will be impossible. Kevin has a G15 equiv., I have a G11 and Michele doesn't have a D-ILA. That's the whole team right now.


If I write it, will you test it?

Fantastic news Mark!!!


The idea of being able to take everything back to the original state or any subsequent state is very comforting to us uptight nervous nellies!! Makes it much easier to experiment.


But being uptight about things is what brought me to the G11 in the first place!


Two questions. Will you be able to backup everything that Dilard can possibly change? (e.g. Black level info - Geometries, etc?) 2nd, will this be able to backup all of the values changed during William's or other calibrations?

Hi Dieter,


To be honest, the more we get "out there" with our adjustments, the more I wanted some way of saving everything myself! After all, my G11 is still my home theater projector, and not just a test machine.


This is also for the "future", as there are some very cool things coming. I want to make sure that everyone feels comfortable with the adjustments.

You drag items from the projector to the file to back up. Drag them from the file to the projector to restore. More than any other piece of the suite, this operation needs to be easy, and fool proof.


This will back up everything that Dilard can change. In fact, it will back up everything that Dilard might change in the future. Just in case, though, this Wizard can be extended to incorporate future items to back up as the items are stored in a text file.


Yes, it will back up all settings from a calibration done by anyone (Richard Martin, JVC, William Phelps), will back up all adjustments done by Mark Foster and will back up things that AFAIK, no one has ever attempted to touch yet (like the settings for how the internal scaler interpolates).


I am working on adding the G20/M4000 settings now....


An interesting idea is backing up from one projector and restoring some settings on another. For instance, when I upgrade to a G15 someday, I won't want to re-do all of my "mods". I can simply copy them in.


Anyway, I know that this will make people feel safer about using the rest of the product, and that's good. Plus, I was losing track of all of those little back-up files!

Great, the pieces are coming together.

I guess the next logical question is can one download a saved gamma set from, say, a calibrated G10 clone, and upload it -save it- into another different G10?

While not ideal, but it would definitely be interesting to give your calculated gamma set a shot if recovery is easy. Do you plan to post them?

I'm looking for a couple of Beta testers to back up their projectors and give me a little feedback on this next release.


It's incredibly easy to do (a single drag and drop and a couple of questions), and only takes about 6 minutes to back up an entire projector to a file.

If you would like to "try on" someone else's gamma curve to see how it fits, feel free...just make SURE to back-up your own first in case you don't like it.
