Dipoles...(and Kef in priority in mind)

1174 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  hrc4u
hi!

i just bought a pair of Kef iq8ds dipoles: http://www.kef.com/qseries/products.htm

as i have read on forums dipoles should be mounted so that the rear "out of phase" cones fires towards back of room right?

ok...so i took a 1,5v battery to check which speaker plays in phase...seems that both my iq8's are identical..??? like having 2 right speakers?

if i try to change the wiring ....the "in phase" cone barely moves...

(i took a look inside to see that one element is in a larger space than the other...so just shifting wiring whould be wrong)

are yours the same?.. that both speakers are identical according to which element plays in phase and so?....urgent!.....

Most dipole speakers are NOT dipole full spectrum. They are dipoles at mid to high frequencies and morph to bipole at low frequencies so that the bass does not cancell and sound thin. So if you are monitoring the bass drivers, they might be in-phase.

Are the speakers marked left and right or maybe an arrow pointing to the front? Usually dipole speakers that are mirror images are marked in some way. But unfortunately some manufacturers like Paradigm have cheapen out now and make identical dipoles.

So you need to determine somehow, whether the mid to high frequencies are mirror imaged. If not, some people mount one speaker up-side-down.

speakers have no markings or arrows..

and from what i can tell they are identical...

so in other words i have to turn one up side down

damn!...my thought was to wall mount them with the included "keyholes" at the back of speakers.....hmm. oh well who said life whould be easy...
