Are you sure? I certainly get CBSE, ABCE etc. which look like local channels. Are people getting DirectTV HD just for HBO? I get CBS HD over TWC in NYC.

The national eastcoast feeds of the networks are out of NY (i.e. your local channels). They are not in HD. CBS-2 is 380, NBC-4 is 382, ABC-7 is 386 and Fox is 388.

chewitt,

Dish network does carry your local CBS station, WCBS-DT, in HDTV. If you have a DirecTV HD receiver, you just need to put up an antenna to get a few HDTV stations over the air in New York.

Unfortunately, most of the local digital stations were on World Trade Center One. There are still a few HDTV stations in New York. Right now, restoring analog service is the highest priority for area broadcasters. If you do a search on this forum, you can find out far more on this topic.
