Run S-video (or composite video) and composite audio from the DirecTV box to the TiVo box, then to the VCR, then to the TV. In a separate path, run RGB (or component) directly from the DirecTV box to your TV (unless your A/V receiver can pass HDTV signals, in which case you can go thru it to facilitate A/V switching). TiVo cant record ore even pass thru any HDTV signal. When you want to watch HDTV (without adding a whole lot more to your system), you need to watch it live via RGB or component.
"How much delay will there be changing channels? Will it be doubled (1 delay for the receiver and then another for the Tivo)? Is there a better solution?"
I assume you will need to use the IR blasters to switch the DirecTV channels. If you compare this new setup to something that didnt require the IR blasters (ie: cable or antenna without a box) it will be much slower, but if comparing to a current IR TiVo setup, it shouldnt be much different. Try experimenting with the IR codes for a while.

Correct ... none exist now, and if/when they do, they will probably be expensive and capacity-limited for a while.
