DirecTV connection to HTPC

372 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Beefcake
I currently own a Inteset Denzel HTPC - the system has been wiped clean and has MCE 2005 as the OS.

Prior to this I was running XP Pro. - and had Std. local cable hooked to the box.

Now I have a OTA HD signal as well as a Samsung D10 DirecTV STB, I also have a Std. DirecTV (no-HD) STB.

I would like to know how can I run either one of the DirecTV boxes through the MCE 2005 unit.

I want to be able to control the STB with the MCE 2005 remote as well.

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me, it would be helpful if the directions were in "laymen" terms as I am not a techno wizard - my deisre exceeds my ability - however I am very determined.

Thank you for any help that anyone may be able to provide.

Here's my 2 cents; hope it helps.

Run the a/v outputs (L/R audio and either composite video or svideo - depends on the connectors available) from the DirecTV box to your PC's video capture card inputs. Your video capture card software will then need to capture from it's composite inputs (versus antenna input). This will probably result in an .AVI file in Standard Definition (versus HD) being saved on your computer. Unless your video capture card has component inputs, you won't be able to capture HD from the DirecTV box.

Remote: not sure. Can you program your MCE remote with codes from the DirecTV box remote?

You might want to repost some details such as what video capture card you're using and what software you have. My experience is limited to the myHD MDP-120 card & assciated software.

Good luck! (I hope this post at least helped a little!)

Thanks - I will give that a shot and see what happens - hope it works, if not, back to the drawing board.
The D10 can't be controlled by MCE. Try the other one first. I wish MCE would allow for serial control of the D10. If it would, I'd switch to MCE.
