Does anyone know which model DirecTV HD tuners (if any) that are being sold today are still able to be controlled with the Replay 45xx's serial cable?
Not exactly still being sold today, but my old Sony HD100 worked great with the Replay serial cable. That was about the only part of it that worked great.
It's weird, but Sony moved out of a lot of areas that I would have thought would have been very profitable for them such as DSS hardware and cordless phones.
HD100 worked for me too. I heard the RCA DTC-100 works too, but I've never seen a serial port on that box, nor on the sister proscan PSHD-105, these are old boxes. These are all 34th generation receivers.
I know DosMan's adapter will allow newer (5th and 6th generation) boxes to work with the replayTVs.
Search for a thread from DosMan.
gweempose, one of the reasons sony pulled out was because of directv forced all those who were manufacturing boxes to use the "hughes" design. There will be no new hardware that is different from the other stuff out there. There will be a consistant user experience. I know sony didn't like that, and I suspect this is conforming to a standard was too much for sony to agree with. Sony likes to do thinks just a little differently... sometimes good sometimes bad.
