Directv - put up a new dish, or get it through shared dish?

I am moving to a new building complexwith 430 units, the building is wired for Directv, but I am guessing that I will get a much better signal if I hang my own dish off the deck and get it that way. Can anyone tell me if this is the case, or refer me to a thread that would help?
