I recently upgraded to the fastest Blu-ray drive in an effort to speed-up the pathetic Blu-ray loading times. A prime example is the Universal Studios Back to the Future Trilogy which brings my high performance pc to its knees.

Testing reveals that the Java code in Blu-ray Live immediately begins to download using the full bandwidth of your Internet pipe (monitor the networking tab of the Windows Task Manager). This is the root cause why many disks load so slow. Like cable or satellite subscriptions, I frown on being forced to pay for advertising. Some people have monthly data caps too!

So here is what I did:

Usually Firewalls keep the external bad software from entering into your computer from the outside. But this time its the opposite.

The goal is to disable allowing PowerDvd/Blu-ray Live (a program running on your computer) from downloading/streaming advertising.

Remember its your computer and you control it. So lets take out this spam.

So here is what I did:

In the Windows 7 Control Panel open the Windows Firewall icon.

Select Advanced Settings.

Then select Outbound rules.

Then over at the right select "New Rule".

Browse to the Cyberlink installation directory usually:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\CyberLink\\PowerDVD10\\PowerDVD10.exe

I called my Internet blocking rule "Power Dvd 10 Advertising Disable 12-2010"

Now Back to the Future loads as fast as a regular Dvd.
We gain back what we used to enjoy!

Program updates can then be downloaded here:
