I've got my system pretty well calibrated for all sources. However, using the HD output from my Dish 6000 (via component) at my usually-great global settings presents a very washed-out looking image. It's as though the "brightness" control of the 6000 is set quite a few notches high. Sadly, there is no brightness control to adjust!

It seems as though the unit is not conforming to the 0 IRE black-level standard for HD. (I have that corrrect, I hope!) One way or the other, the unit's black level is way high compared to my other components (progressive-out DVD, TiVo's, SVHS decks, cable, et al.) BTW, I use the same cbles and swap back and forth between my DVD (set for 0 IRE) and 6000, so that's not a factor.

Does anyone else see this, or perhaps I have a flawed unit?

Mike, I notice the same thing. It is especially noticable on SD programming that is upconverted. I am always playing with the brightness controls on HD programming. I set my controls once on DVD mode via AVIA, and haven't touched them once.
