I have a Dish 6000 HD receiver going through VGA to a 1366x768 Fujitsu plasma. Since the receiver can output HD as either 1080i or 720p, which one would look better?

I thought it would have to be 720, since the plasma is progressive anyway. Also, 1080i would equal 540p which is less than 720p - therefore I wouldn't be losing any resolution when selecting 720p.

Now it gets confusing. From everything I read on the forum, 1080i has a slightly higher resolution than 720p, therefore I would be losing pixels from a 1080 program (almost all HD) when passed through as 720p. And the expensive Fujitsu circuitry might be better at deinterlacing than the Dish 6000.

Of couse, I'll try to see if I can discern differences. But since I don't understand interlacing that well, I'd like to know which mode would look better in theory.

Try both. 720p should be better.
