North America uses the ATSC system for HDTV. NTSC is the analog non-HD system in North America. PAL is the analog system used in most of Europe and much of the rest of the world.

The two units you're asking about, the 622 and 722, are exclusively for use with Dish Network DBS in the USA. They are made by Dish's corporate sibling Echostar.

The only 1080p output from any Dish HDTV is for HD PPV movies, and is only available on HDMI output.

For linear 24/7 channels HD, it depends on the fixed HD format you've chosen in the HD menu, which is either 720p 60/59.94 fps or 1080i 30/29.97 fps.
