Dish Network 811, any experience with 720p out?

Hi,

I read few posts on this web site about Dish Network's 811 HD receiver having some problems when through the 720p output. Some people mentioned when in 720p mode, 811 is actually sending 480p signal and other people have opinion that when in 720p mode, the 811 only outputs every other frame of 1080i resolution. Here and here are the links to the info I just mentioned.

So what is the general consensus now. Has 811's 720p output improved any with firmware upgrades?

Can some other people getting 720p output from 811 receiver please share their experience? Thank you.

Yes, from experience, and without any shred of doubt, the 720p output is true 720p for 720p sources. I can't even guess what the box is doing to 1080i sources, but the effect is nowhere near as good.

For 720p sources, it is passthrough.
I have and HD CRT and an 811, so I set my receiver to 1080i mode. I did some experimenting this weekend and set it to 720P mode. The TV definitely recognized it as a 720P source (as shown on my screen), but the TV really didn't seem any different at all, even with native 720P programming (like the World Series).

So, I would say that the 811 is outputting whatever resolution that you tell it to.

Hi,

I understand that for 720p source, 811is just doing decoding and passthrough the signals. But what I was talking about and other people were referring to, was conversion of 1080i source material to 720p signals by 811.

I see. The only way you can get a real answer on that is talk to a Dish engineer.

I let my tv convert 1080i to 720p because it does a better job of it than the Dish 811.
It doubt E could fix this problem in software. The 811 lacks to processing horsepower fond in many TVs.
