It's ONLY available on the 922 receiver (which will cost a subscriber $200 minimum + $4 more @ month and it's buggy). On top of that 3D PPV is $7.99!
I've been with 'em since '98 but will be looking at D*! BTW, what does D* charge for 3D PPV and are their other 3D offerings worthwhile?

Elaborte... Channels etc... Movies???

On channel 1 or 501 IF you have a 922. The movie in 3D (for $7.99!) is Cats VS. Dogs, the Revenge of Kitty Galore.

Been with Dish since '98 but I'm looking into Direct now.........

What's $8?! I'm blowing $6 on a 2D movie thru Vudu for HDX quality. Think of it this way, if it saves you the $30 you would've blown buying the flick, you saved money!

I ordered it last night to watch with the family. I was pleasantly surprised. Some scenes were very funny. We all noticed though that the audio didn't sync. The 3D was Ok in some and pretty bad in others. I'm glad Dish has a channel now so I can rent some 3D movies I didn't want to outright buy.

Off topic a bit but how has your experience been with the 922. I know a lot of folks don't seem to be happy with it on Sat. Guys. Thanks!

Well, it's a start. What are the problems with the 922?

Mostly problems "slinging" and missing timers for recording. How long have you had yours and has it met your expectations? What did they charge you to upgrade, $200? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I don't have a 922 yet. I'll definitely get one if I need it for 3D, but I don't have a problem waiting for more 3D content than a pay per view channel.

Just read through some more posts re. the 922 and recordings not happening or disappearing. Gonna pass on upgrading for now. I'll hold off until CES then make a decision on whether or not to jump to D*.

I decided to rent Last Airbender 3D yesterday (it was $6.99). I've read nothing but bad things about the movie, but I decided to rent it anyway, in hopes that more people doing so would "persuade" Dish Network to add more 3D content. I watched about two minutes of it, just to see how it looked, and it was alright.

I assume you have the 922.
If so, how long have you had it and is it meeting your expectations? How was the quality of the 3D? I read on sat guys that they would be adding 3D VOD on the 722K as well soon but I have a 722 (NON-K) and 622. I really like Dish but I'm awfully tempted to jump ship to Direct because of 3D. Thanks for any input.

Yeah, since October. I've also had the 622 and 722k before this. I like it better than both of those (although it's no TiVo Premiere). Haven't tried the Sling stuff. I've read about the "disappearing recordings," and had that happen once shortly after I got it, but it hasn't happened since, which leads me to believe that a software update took care of it. It's 1080/24p 3D.

Dish Dips Into 3D

Satellite TV Operator Debuts 3D Movies On-Demand

By Todd Spangler

Dish Network is throwing its hat into the 3D ring with the launch of a handful of on-demand movies in the format.

Starting this month, Dish will offer access to 3D movies including Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, The Last Airbender, A Christmas Carol and Step Up 3D. Additional titles to come in January include Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After and Saw: The Final Chapter.

A Christmas CarolDish follows satellite rival DirecTV, which was first to jump into 3D earlier this year in hopes of establishing a lead in the new format. DirecTV offers n3D, its own 24-hour channel sponsored by Panasonic, as well as the event-based ESPN 3D channel and 3D movies. Other providers that offer 3D VOD include Comcast, Verizon FiOS TV, Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse TV.

Dish currently isn't offering ESPN 3D, which also is carried by Comcast, TWC and AT&T. Verizon is to add ESPN 3D to its lineup in 2011.

Still, it's early days for 3DTV, and sales of 3D sets to date have been a big disappointment for manufacturers and retailers.

Dish's 3D movies -- which it says will be available in up to 1080p quality -- range in price from $5.99 to $7.99. To watch the movies in 3D, customers must have a Dish ViP 922 HD DVR and a 3D television set with compatible glasses.

To promote its 3D debut, Dish will host a "Home for the Holidays Sweepstakes" through Dec. 31. Each time a subscribers rents a qualifying movie or event from Dish Cinema, they are automatically entered into a drawing to win prizes including a Sony 46-inch LED 3DTV, Sony portable satellite navigation systems, Sony Webbie HD Cameras and Fox Family Prize Packs.

"Dish Network is giving customers the ability to experience the power of 3D from home with a variety of popular movies available on Dish Cinema," Dish senior vice president of programming Dave Shull said in a statement. "Our customers expect engaging video experiences, and we look forward to bringing them additional 3D titles as we expand our Dish Cinema platform."

The movies can be ordered through the Dish Cinema interface by pressing "Menu" then "Dish On Demand," or by tuning to channel 1 or 501. The company provides more information at www.dish.com/3D .

Sorry for the late reply.

So far I like the 922. I have had no problems at all with anything on it. All my recordings are there (unlike my old 622 which would just shut off and run the fan at top speed for hours).

I also use it for slinging to my evo phone. so far everything I tried works as advertised.

No need to rant about Dish here but they are always late to everything. I've been with them since 2006 and that is about to change tomorrow since I am having DTV which does not requires a special equipment to get 3D but any of their HD receivers.

Pardon me if I'm skeptical that you are who you say you are. We just don't see much of this here on AVS. If you are, that's great. I think all of us who post on AVS appreciate it when company reps participate.

I'd like to know when Dish intends to offer more 3D content, and with which of their receivers. Right now, it's just PPV with the Dish 922, but rumors have the 722 also being upgraded. I've been with Dish for many years, and I think Dish is often among the first providers to add new features and innovations. That hasn't happened with 3D, so what all of us here want to know is when it will.
