Dish Network ViP 722 question?

4908 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bfdtv
I am getting set-up with Dish Network at the end of this week and I think I am getting their ViP 722 HD-DVR and I have a quick question about it. I will be using it on two TV in two different rooms the main one is a HDTV and the second will be a SDTV. I know the 722 can handle two TV's one HD and one SD but how does the signal get to the second TV? Do they run another coax cable from the dish to the second TV or do they run it from the back of the 722 receiver? Also it is a coax cable that they will run to the second TV to get it to work and not composite cables(red, white, yellow) correct?

They run the cable (coax) from the 722 to the second TV.

Not always.

It depends on how your house is set up.

My house is already wired for normal cable TV with all the rooms basically connected to the feed that comes in from outside. However, I'm using a dual dish tuner not cable TV

The second output is a Coax from the TV2-Out right back into the wall that the cable signal would have come into. That feed basically back feeds the entire house. So anywhere you put a second TV that is already wired for cable will be fed from that TV2 output. This also means that if you had a 3rd TV in another room you could hook it up to that connection, but both the 2nd and 3rd TV would use the same remote and see the same channells. To have a 3rd TV you would need another receiver (and satellite I think).

One thing to know about the split feed, you will lose the ability to record one show on TV1, watch a second show on TV1 AND watch something else on TV.2.

See I was told by the Dish CSR I could record and watch two seperate things on TV1 and then watch something different than that on TV2, so she was wrong? I wanted to lease another SD box just for TV2 and she told me that I would not have to because of the ViP 722 Dual TV ability. When the installer comes on Friday will they let me add another box if I want to instead of having the 722 control both TV's?

The 722 has two satellite tuners. You can use them however you want. But if you are watching one satellite channel on TV2, you obviously can't record two other satellite channels. That would require three satellite tuners.
