278 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  bthorny
I just ordered a a hdtv reciever and two dvr from dishnetwork today...

What receiver are they giving you with this (I like a moron forgot to ask, didn't realize until tonight that one of them doesnt have dvi)?

I hope it is the one with DVI, I guess if it isn't I can call them back.

If it matters it was on a no contract plan everything was free basically

180 plus local

HBO and cinemax pak

hdtv pak

anyhelp is appreciated

bthorny,

Dish Network currently offers one standalone HD STB, the Dish 811. It has DVI. The earlier model was discontinued.

I hope you got their no commitment rental plan, rather than locking yourself into a one-year commitment. The near-term future for significant new HD on Dish Network is not good.

LOL, yeah, other than the NEW TNT HD that they added today that I don't think DirectTV has ....

Take prognostications you see here with a LARGE grain of salt.

Hey, there is nothing wrong by doing the 1yr commitment.

That is what I did and I wouldn't do it any other way.

People commit to far worse things than Dish's 1yr commitment!!

Oh, by the way TNTHD on DISH looks great!;)

I didn't have to commit for a year, The main reason I chose dish over direct becuase for some reason direct didn't have the locals in my area yet and several people I talked to said the future looks better for HD of dish network (t just depends on who you talk to I guess). Voom looks like it is really starting to take off but, I was dissapointed that they didn't offer some of the regular programming that I like to watch plus no locals for me if it weren't for that I probably just would have gotten voom though.

The great thing about this plan is if I don't like it I guess I can just give the equipment back and try direct when they get the locals in my area I suppose (if there hd programming is better when that happens)

Also, thanks for answer my question about the reciever, I would have been pretty up upset if the install guy would have shown up with the other reciever that doesn't have dvi. I live out in the country so I hope that the darn install guys doesn't try to pawn one of those 6000u's off on me. theyhave laying around but, I guess if they have been discontinued I really shouldn't worry about it.

I'm sure they won't do that.

The 811 does HD beautifully, especially over DVI.

It's a little buggy still, esp. if you do any OTA reception. If not, you'll barely have any problems at all ... at least not that the occasional reboot won't fix.

Good luck !!
thanks....yeah I won't be getting anything OTA so hopefully it will work well for me.
