I recently got my HTPC working really well with my new Samsung 50 in DLP via DVI. I started noticing bad digital artifacts like banding and pixelation in the Finding Nemo DVD. At first I blamed the Samsung HLN507W because I didn't see or notice the artifacts on my Sony 36" XBR direct view. I also blamed the Sonic DVD player I use but then I did a little experiment. I examined other animated features from Disney like Monster's Inc and I see pixelations everywhere scenes are dark and in the shadows. Then I examined non-Disney animation like Final Fantasy, Shrek and Titan AE and I didn't observe any digital artifacts! The pictures were generally flawless. So I'm now blaming Disney's shoddy digital transfer. I'm beginning to see many problems with Disney animations such as the recently released Miazaki films. I think my setup is revealing flaws in crappy DVD trandsfers.
