dear all i have an hdmi audio windows 7 and 8.1 via display port cable issue, i need enlightenment.

so all my hdmi cables are 1m 3m 5m and 8metre all work fine with dvd/blu ray player but only some work with win 7 and win 8.1(no audio) via display port adapters from various makes of laptop, (sony laptops come with hdmi port and all work fine)
it seems the the ones that dont work are the hdmi cables that are marked "high speed hdmi with ethernet"
i have since swopped these cables out and all is well.
however i cant swop out the 8m one as its in conduit so i put a powered hdmi splitter in line and i get audio from all laptops.

please can someone explain why the "with ethernet" ones are causing an issue ??

many thanks
tim

Passive high speed HDMI cables with or without ethernet should be fine. Ethernet is an option that never materialized because the hardware mfrs never bought into it. Having a cable with that capability won't alter or affect anything. The cable could have been bad or it was a cheap knock-off being marketed as something else.
