It is often said that the optimum listening setup for stereo is an equilateral triangle.

Which means the the distance between the speakers is equal to the distance between each speaker and the listening position.

So if your speakers are 10 feet apart, you should sit 10 feet from the left and right speaker.

Then you can play a bit with toe-in of the speakers.

Ofcourse it isn't a rule, but more of a guideline.

Some speakers sound better if they're closer together, and some sound better if they're further apart.

Or if the equilateral setup doesn't fit in your room, then it won't work anyway ;)
