You know, I've read a lot here of about fabrics, paints, etc. You're not gonna believe this, but I stumbled across a bolt of polyester for $.99/yard (54" wide)--the stuff works great--no creases (polyester is wrinkle proof), great sheen (think of how shiny polyester is); it is thick and yet still let's my remote controls pass (my speakers and hardware are all behind my screen.) I am gonna build a frame on a hinge so I can swing it out of the way--but I am very impressed for a few bucks worth of fabric. Not a bad starter screen until I feel the need to do more...

If its letting IR thru, its letting light thru, if light is getting thru, not all the light reflected back at you. Blackout material being only a few dollars more, I would recommend it.

what about polyester stretched OVER the blockout material?

wouldn't work for a man with a remote, but seems you would get even reflectivity and the benefit of the BO behind it.

i may pick up some and try it next week.

i'd like to do something to increase the gain of my BO screen. colors i'm getting from my LT150, just have no vibrancy...contrary to what everyone else is reporting.

some kind of gain is in order.

When you stretch stuff like this it doesn't necessarily stretch uniformly. It will look good at first, but as time goes on, you will notice the texture moired with any screen door from your projector.

At that point, you will want to upgrade.

It still looks great after all this time. Yes, if light was a problem, I might need blackout. But my PJ is bright as it is and I'm in a darfk room. I am still very happy with my screen. Have now added adjustable masks and everything. No plan to change any time soon--and with kids, I want a cheap screen--you never know when they'll decide to color it with crayons.

Very good results after more than a year! Congratulations! We just bought our projector in September of this year.

darth maul,

well I see it's been some time now but

Have you seen a FireHawk, the light goes through the screen

A matter of fact, most if not all non-supported tab-tension screens

let light through, so how would someone explain that?

So if IR passes... does sound pass clearly?

May be the next best DIY screen...

I would like to see it next to the Parker plastics and blackout material ... to see what the images look like sid bt side.

Good job, Thinker. What color material did you use? Maybe a grey polyester would give you blacker blacks. I guess I could let the wife wash some white material - she seems to make everything grey in the process.

The best part about my screen is the speaker layout behind the screen; I'll post some pictures. Don't most screens prohibit putting speakers behind the screen? I'd never give that up; it's far more lifelike to have speakers behind the screen.
