Hi,

I've read TRYG's posts and reviews and KBK's, and I think I've come to a conclusion but would like some advice from full screen experience.

I have a dlp projector (proxima dx3) and feel that a grey screen will be best for the blacks to come out.

Has anyone with a dlp painted blackout cloth and achieved nice dark blacks but still managed to hold onto the nice bright whites and colours (or is it simply a trade one for the other?)

any advice would be appreciated and so would names and manufacturers of paint used

thanks guys

TRYG's should be commended on the research and time given to his review. I painted a 60 inch diagonal artist canvas with the high heat silver and did a wonderful job with the blacks and very minor sacrifice to the whites. I also have enough blackout cloth for a 84 inch dia. screen. But when I spray painted the canvas, a smooth consistent coverage was not to perfect. I then decided a firehawk screen was the answer for me. Daniel quoted a reasonable price just for the material.

Side note: behr has a close color match for the high heat silver you could roll on with a 1/4 inch nap roller.

I agree the work tryg did was awesome and I really appreciate all the info. You mentioned a behr paint comparable to the high heat silver, do you recall the name?

Also, you mentioned you have now bought a firehawk right? is it better than your other screen with the high heat silver?

What kind of price (if you don't mind me asking) and where did you purchase the material?

thanks

The behr paint was found on a sample and their was a long line and I didn't wait long enough to buy it. ( that was the decision time for the firehawk). I can not in good conscious quote the price. Believe me it is very affordable. haven't received the screen yet but with tryg using a full screen as a background on his review and Daniel's expertise, firehawk is the way to go.

I understand and respect the price issue. I will definitely research the firehawk and see what I can find. Thanks for your advice.

BTW what type of projector are you using and what is the size of the firehawk? I assume you will be building your own frame? how so?

thanks

Your welcome. Optoma 730 is the projector. nice 4:3 500:1 . shortcomings: uniformity of 80%. the screen will be a 84" diagonal (50X67) sitting 10 feet away. The material size is 54X72, this is needed to wrap the frame. here is a link provided here on the forum to build a quick frame or you can go to an artist canvas shop and they can frame and stretch it for you.
