I currently have a temporary HT set-up while adding on to the house. I am projecting on the Sherwin Williams luminous white flat painted wall. Da-Lite has sent me samples of the new Gray high contrast HC material. It definitely looks good with my 21N. The white wall looks pretty good as well. I am thinking about taking the Da-lite sample down to the Sherwin-Williams store and have them match the gray, using the luminous white base. It may not be exactly the same as the Da-mat material but I think I would improve the image for around $25.00!!!


Any Thoughts? Comments?

I think that would work OK, and I am thinking of doing something similar on a temporary basis. I have an old DaLite Boardroom electric ceiling mounted matt white screen in my home theatre. I am considering painting over the matt white surface with a grey paint to improve the image with the D-ILA projector that I have coming. This is not a permanent solution,but is intended to be temporary until I can replace the screen with a Greyhawk or something similar. Has anyone ever done this? If so are there any tips to avoid making a mistake that cannot be recovered from. For example would it be best to brush it on or to spray it on. I would like to do it without taking the screen down as I think that might be formidable task. What Sherwin Williams paint # would you use?

You cannot paint any roll up screen with any paint that is available out there today. It will not work. Nothing out there bonds well enough, or will take the abuse of the rolling in any way. I would mention my own product, but it is in a 'transistional' period at tis moment, so it is temporarily unavailable.. as usual, it is still being finalized.

Look at the mixing formula. See if it is a pure gray, or if it has browns or blues pr greens. I mixed my own after doing searches and studying others. I used a pure white and pitch black. Then I mixed them till I came up with a good color that didn't take away from my whites but added to my blacks and colors. I tried 4 or 5 diffrent shades of gray. You don't want other colors in the paint unless you are sure what color you need to add too correct the color wheel. I used a satin not flat but my wall is very strait and flat. I found that I couldn't use a semi gloss. Too much hot spotting. This is just my $.02 I do have a money back guarantee.....

I remember seeing a shot of brown pigment going into the paint. The Gray that they came up with looks dead nuts on with the Da-lite HC screen material that refer to in a diiferent thread.

Give it a try. It can't hurt. They add brown because it makes the gray seem richer I think, Now I can't remember what changes what.
