very basic question:

can dlp projectors be affected by "defective mirror" syndrome? I am thinking something along the lines of an LCD dead pixel.

I have not found any mention of the above so I am guessing that defective mirrors are a non issue.

thanks,

of course it is possible and I imagine it has happened but in all the time hanging out here I have never heard of a dead mirror in a DLP unit...

Because it is so rare it is unacceptable in a new unit and would (should) be fixed under warrantee... unlike the LCD 'within spec' kind of response... Big plus for DLP in the cheaper end of the market in my book... a dead pixel in a SVGA unit just kills it IMHO...

It has happened but is very rare.

If more DLP projectors had three chips we might hear more about it, but for now it is a non-issue.
