I have had this unit a month and used it with basic/expanded cable sucessfully and just got Comast digital cable. The instructions say you can do plug-in auto programming, which I did to download all the new channels into the unit for recording. Well almost.

In order to record channels, like the HDTV channels in the #800+ range, what am I doing wrong? Do I have to re-wire the antenna/cable box connections? They did not download and I am unable to enter them manually, which you need to do to tell the DVR to record them.

Can I record channels 125 - 8##?

The E55 (and all Panny recorders) only have an ANALOG tuner. To record digital cable you need to hook analog audio/video cables between your set top cable box and the L1, L2, or L3 video inputs on your E55 (you can then set timer recordings of digital cable channels using L1, L2 or L3 (as applicable) as the "channel" in the timer menu, but you also have to set your cable box up using the digital program guide to change the set top box channel for a timer recording). You can still route the cable out of the wall through your E55 first then on into the cable box (the E55 will pass thru the cable signals), with this setup you can still use the E55 tuner to record the "analog" channels (i.e., 124 and below).

Good luck :)

Thank you very much vferrari,

I have had my E-55S for a month now and haven't been able to figure out how to record the lower channels, 125 and under, and still be able to watch something else while recording.

Your post about hooking it up, has just made me a happy person,

Thank you,

Now the only time I have to watch what i'm recording is up in the higher digital channels,

Thanks again, :)

Thanks to vferrari I have got the video portion working by putting the yellow plug of the composite video into the back (video out) of the Motorola 6200, and all three plugs - composite video and audio into the back of my Panny E-55 as he recommended.

There does not seem to be a second set of audio out plugs on the back of the Motorola to plug the other colored red and white composite audio plugs into.

My present audio out on the Motorola 6200 seems to be going to the back of my TV. Then from the TV to receiver.

How many audio outs should be on the back of my 6200 Motorola? I see two optical plugs on the back of the Motorola but I have no idea if they are optical in or out?

Can I use one of those (optical) to run the audio from the Panny E-55 to the back of the Motorola 6200? Leave the yellow composite plug for the video?

Or should I think about running my audio in a new set-up, from scratch between the cable box, TV, receiver? Maybe this would free up the audio outs? Or can I run an optical cable from the cable box to the receiver and then to the TV?

Thanks
