I know it's a silly question, just to get something without (plasma, LCD, etc) it costs alot more for less picture quality for the size. Or do all manufacturers just throw them in.

All consumer grade tube TVs have built-in speakers.

Commercial CRT monitors usually don't have speakers, but they cost $30,000

TVs always come with speakers, many monitors don't - thats the difference. The largest CRT monitors are 4:3 22" or so. Only CRT HDTVs (with speakers) are available larger than that. Plasmas are available as monitors (without speakers, though you can easily add them since they have internal amplifiers) at sizes up to at least 50".

Right,

I know that about flat panel displays (plasma, lcd, etc.). I was just curous since a 30" CRT costs under $1k whereas a 30" LCD is over double that for a lower quality picture.

To be honest since I heard the old tinny speakers on other sets, I was determined to listen to programming thru another source, all of my movies sound goes to my sony 5.1 capable component located under my HDTV locking stand, then out to speakers I believe that's what home Theater is about IMHO.Watching HDTV and listening to tinny speakers just isn't in my future, listening to components that give out 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 is.

Right,

But I'm not setting up 7.1 in the bedroom with full range all around. I have PSB Aplha Intro LR and LCR speakers for 3.1 (haven't picked a sub yet). And they will all go into my TV stand/table. This is why I'd rather have a display without speakers since I won't be using them. Also without the speakers the device will be somewhat smaller.
