I see a number of HDTV cap cards floating around, but they all just have coax inputs, etc.

Are there any HDTV cap cards that have real DVI inputs ?

This is important, because the industry only has until the middle of 2005 to produce a non-broadcast-flag compliant capture card / device. We really need this kind of card to exist if we have any hope of recording HDTV on our own terms with our own systems...

Any comments / rumors appreciated...

Cliff, are you talking about Firewire or DVI or VGA/YPbPr capture?

I share his frustration. We need a PC HD capture card at consumer prices that has a variety of inputs. Have needed one for years - I don't understand why it's so hard.

Gary,

They are Firewire and/or USB.

There is a very good reason why no VGA/YPbPr capture device is in the consumer market place.....COST!!

As indicated many times in this forum there are professional cards in the $3k to $5k range. The high cost is because of low demand and the custom hardware compressor/encoder chips necessary to reduce the stream bit rates for PCI bus movement and HDD storage.
